Long Weekend

After a very busy week at work, I'm grateful to have a long weekend. We have Monday off for the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday, and I think I really need an extra day of rest. I slept in a little bit today, but then ran all my errands and did my grocery shopping earlier this afternoon. So now I can spend the rest of the weekend relaxing, being lazy, and watching football. Yay!

Lazy

I suppose I'm already failing at my New Year's resolution to keep my blog more updated. That's why I usually don't make resolutions. The possibility of early failure is just too great.

As my title says, I've been lazy for the past few days. Because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, we have the day off today. I haven't done much over this long weekend, and that's just the way I like it. As it is, I never like to have an agenda or a to-do list for the weekend. People work so hard during the week and overwhelm themselves with stress, but I'll never understand why people add more stress to their lives by trying to do so much over the weekend. I think it's a shame when people come back to work on Monday and tell me that they're so exhausted because their weekends were so busy. Me, I like to rest on the weekends. I like to relax. Isn't that what the weekends are for? Because things have been busy at work, I've decided to be extra lazy this weekend. So there! I've just been spending the weekend watching a lot of football and a lot of DVDs and movies online. And, naturally, I've been sleeping a lot. All in all, it seems like the perfect weekend.

Updates

I've been pretty bad about updating my blog lately. To my four, five, or six loyal readers, I apologize for leaving you breathless in anticipation for a new post. Needless to say—if you've read the last few posts—I've been busy, as always. The end of the year, last year I suppose, was busier than expected. Work was naturally busy and because I took some vacations for Thanksgiving and Christmas, things seemed busier. The vacations, though, were wonderful, welcomed, and well-deserved. It was nice to get away from the office to rest, relax, and recuperate.

This week was my first week back to work after my vacation. Even though I was rested, I was also thankful that it was only a two-and-a-half day week. We were able to leave the office early on New Year's Eve, and Friday was a work-from-home day. Technically Friday was a normal work day, but our boss said that we could stay home as long as we check our e-mail every now and then. I checked my e-mail a few times, as required, but also took the opportunity of a day off to do some shopping.

My New Year's Eve was pretty quiet. Instead of going out, I decided to stay home for a quiet evening. I think that the older I get the more I become an antisocial curmudgeon and hermit. I like my quiet, alone time. Besides, I think I might have outgrown the need to stay out late partying and drinking all night long. I'm getting old and I'm usually tired and ready for bed by around 10:00 p.m.—and sometimes I'm even ready for bed at 10:00 a.m.!

This weekend will probably be a quiet one. It will be one of those chore-filled weekends. I need to do some laundry and some cleaning. Not too exciting, but nonetheless important I guess.

Lazy

This was a really lazy weekend. At first I was feeling guilty about it because there are a lot of things that I could have done—like cleaning, laundry, shopping, etc.—but I didn't do any of those things except for a quick shopping trip to the grocery store. Oh well. I suppose I don't need to feel guilty considering how busy I've been and how hard I've been working lately. I deserve weekends like this, darn it!

In fact the most strenuous thing I've done all weekend was make and eat a huge dinner. And, really, how hard is it to make a simple dinner and then eat it? I wish every day was like this. I made my famous Baked Penne Pasta with Turkey, Zucchini, and Fire Roasted Tomatoes. It's basically adapted from another recipe I found. I use penne instead of ziti and turkey instead of beef. This time I was also craving some extra spice, so I added a bunch of red pepper flakes. Yum! I think I ate my weight in pasta tonight...
